Accessing counselling should feel possible and not out of reach. For many people, cost can be a barrier to getting the support they need, especially when therapy is something they want to engage in consistently over time.
At Magnolia Counselling & Co, we offer low cost therapy and counselling options in Port Moody for individuals across the Tri-Cities, including Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam. These services are designed to make mental health support more accessible, while still maintaining the quality and integrity of the work we do.
Many people consider therapy for months or even years before starting. Cost is often one of the biggest barriers, especially when ongoing support feels important.
Low cost counselling at Magnolia is not a separate or lesser version of therapy. It is part of our commitment to making care more accessible while staying grounded in our values of relationship, renewal, and resolve.
We understand that many people are navigating financial pressures alongside the challenges that bring them to therapy. Whether you are a student, early in your career, between jobs, or simply trying to manage your expenses, having access to lower cost options can make a meaningful difference.
Our goal is to offer a space where you can receive consistent, supportive care without added stress around affordability.

Lower cost therapy can be a good fit for individuals who want to access counselling in a way that feels more financially sustainable.
We often work with clients who:
There are no income requirements or referral criteria needed to access these services. Support is available to anyone interested in working with an intern therapist.

At Magnolia, relationships are at the centre of our work. We are honest, integrous, and highly relational in how we show up with clients, regardless of the type of service they are accessing.
Our clinicians are Registered Clinical Counsellors and Canadian Certified Counsellors with graduate training in counselling psychology. Our intern counsellors are completing masters level clinical training and are carefully selected to be part of our team.
We focus on the patterns that shape how you connect with yourself and others.
We understand how past experiences and nervous system responses influence present challenges.
Intern counsellors work under the supervision of experienced clinicians, offering care and additional clinical oversight.
Therapy is a shared process, guided by your needs, goals, and pace.
Choosing a counsellor is a relational decision. We encourage clients to explore our team and find someone whose approach feels like a good fit.
People seek low cost counselling for many of the same reasons they seek therapy more generally. The difference is simply that affordability makes it more possible to begin.
Some of the concerns we commonly support include:
Rather than focusing only on surface-level behaviours, we work to understand the deeper patterns and experiences shaping what you are going through.

No, you do not need a referral. You can reach out directly to book a consultation or inquire about current availability. We can help match you with a counsellor based on your needs and preferences.
Low cost therapy is offered at a reduced rate because sessions are provided by practicum students or intern counsellors completing masters level clinical training. During this stage, counsellors work under consistent and direct supervision from experienced Registered Clinical Counsellors while building their clinical experience. Lower cost reflects a different stage of professional development, not a lower standard of care.
No. Low cost counselling at Magnolia is available to anyone interested in working with an intern therapist. You do not need a referral, specific income level, or particular circumstance to access these services.
Our lower cost therapy is available on an ongoing basis. However, the reduced student rate is typically available while intern counsellors are completing their training, which is approximately 12 months. As counsellors move into fellowship and eventually become fully Registered Clinical Counsellors, session rates increase to reflect their stage of professional development. We are happy to discuss rates and timelines during consultation.
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially when cost has been a concern. Low cost counselling offers a way to begin that feels more accessible, while still receiving care that is meaningful and supportive.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. If you are ready to explore counselling in a space that values honesty, care, and relational depth, we invite you to connect with us.
