Our Story
The Heart Behind What We Do
Magnolia Counselling & Co. was born out of friendship, vision, and a deep belief that healing grows when people feel truly seen. We are Mia and Maggie, friends, co-founders, and the hearts behind Magnolia.
Our story began in graduate school, where our paths crossed and something clicked immediately. Beyond the spark of friendship, there was a quiet recognition that our shared values and dreams might one day grow into something bigger. Those early years were filled with long drives to and from school and drop-off conversations that never seemed to end.
We often joked that we had fallen into a vortex - a space where time disappeared and being in each other’s presence felt both grounding and expansive. It was in those in-between moments that our vision started to take shape, growing more certain with every conversation. Magnolia came to life not just as a practice but as an extension of who we are.
Even the name carries layers of meaning: a blending of Mag and Mia, and the magnolia tree itself, which blooms each April with resilience, strength, and timeless beauty. (Continued below)
April has become a theme of our story - a season of beginning, of coming together, and of growth. It was in April 2024 that Magnolia officially took root, carrying with it the reminder that healing, like nature, is cyclical and ever-renewing.
As women in business, we wanted to create more than an office or a company. We wanted to cultivate a space where soul friendship and meaningful work meet. A space where clients, colleagues, and community members feel both grounded and uplifted.
Our work is relational at its core. We believe healing unfolds when people feel met in connection, presence, and trust. We honour each person’s individuality and authenticity, and hold space for them to bring who they are into the work.
At Magnolia, slow growth matters more than quick wins. Integrity matters more than image. We hold space for honest conversations - for grief and joy, for trauma and transformation. We believe that friendship can be a foundation for visionary work, and that women leading together can build something not only successful but soulful.
Our vision is simple yet powerful: we honour the courage it takes to heal, we create a practice where people feel supported, and we let the values that root us - compassion, creativity, and connection - guide us forward. ♡
